For primary school groups is there a better city to visit than York? Travel in time at the Jorvik Viking Centre, ride on rockets at the National Railway Museum, or be inspired by the beautiful York Minster. There are so many different attractions to visit, all easily accessible on foot. The city centre is just a mile away along a traffic free riverside walk, making YHA York a great base to lead your own school residential. Or why not draw on our extensive knowledge of this beautiful city and let us provide you with one of our YHA led History and Discovery packages? Each day will include a visit to one of York’s famous attractions followed up with afternoon and evening activities and workshops based on your day’s adventure back at the hostel. Think Viking pancakes, stained glass workshops and fully functioning siege engines!
Our package is great for groups wanting to explore York through the ages and makes a great local history study, tracing serval aspects of national history before and after 1066. Or you could just focus on the Vikings with trips to the Jorvik centre or DIG: an archaeological adventure, followed up by building Viking long ships back at the hostel.
With free wifi, a games room, 2 classrooms equipped with whiteboards, Projectors and AV equipment, and team building workshops available for all age groups, YHA York is a great choice for older school groups and universities looking for group accommodation in the city. Whatever your reason for staying, you can be sure that YHA York will provide a good night’s sleep, great access to the city and plenty of space for your group to follow up work in the evening or socialise with their peers. Plus, plan your trip with peace of mind, safe in the knowledge that we have 24 hour staffing, ID checks, CCTV and other measures in place to ensure you enjoy a safe stay.
Social groups or non-education/youth groups will find York a city full of surprises and ripe for exploration, with cobbled streets and hidden snickelways, leading to all manner of quirky independent shops and eateries waiting to be discovered. You can easily spend a day simply wandering around this famous walled city, taking in a show, or cruising along the Ouse.
Get discount tickets for The Ghost Trail of York, as well as recommendations and top tips, from our friendly and knowledgeable staff. With all those activities to fit in, you’ll be glad to sit down and relax back at the hostel, with coffee and cake or a beer in our licenced bar.
