YHA Malham is a delightful hostel set in the heart of this iconic village. We’re perfectly located for access to local attractions including Malham Cove and Gordale Scar, with both of these natural wonders a relatively easy walk away – at least until the bottom of the steps at the Cove that is!
With 81 beds split across two buildings we are ideal for both larger groups wanting to take over the whole site, and for smaller groups needing their own segregated space. Our large dining room seats up to 50, plus we have a comfortable TV lounge and a separate classroom/meeting room that are ideal for relaxation or break-out space.
The surrounding area offers education groups plenty to do and our Discovery package and Primary school Geography packages offer a range of activities that are designed to educate, entertain and engage pupils. We offer a range of activities including; limestone studies, fossil casting, bug hunts, stream studies, navigational hikes and GPS trails where students will learn a number of navigation and map reading skills linked to the National Curriculum. School groups participating in our packages can also enjoy guided walks to Malham Cove and Gordale Scar, the latter via the magical Janet’s Foss – but watch out for pesky fairies!
Groups planning on leading their own trips have the option to add a half-day or full-day YHA led bolt-on activity if desired. Additionally as part of our New Multi- Activity package, or as an adventure bolt on to your self-led stay, we can offer a range of adventurous activities including rock climbing, abseiling and caving around the local area, all delivered by our expert partners High Adventure.
With its easy access to the Cove and Yorkshire Dales, and separate study/classroom space for fieldwork follow-up , YHA Malham is the perfect choice for Secondary schools and Colleges looking for a location to run Geography and Geology GCSE and A-level trips. A self-led stay is a cost effective way for Secondary schools to afford fieldwork opportunities, ensuring that all students can have access to impactful learning opportunities.
For hiking, biking, walking and other organised social groups YHA Malham has it all; a great location, knowledgeable staff, and facilities including a drying room and large cycle store. The hostel is an ideal overnight stay for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, The Pennine Way National Trail, and the Way of the Roses cycle path. Straight from the door you have access to miles of country lanes and intense hill climbs, hike up to the famous limestone pavements, and beyond.
With full group catering available and a fully licensed bar you won’t need to worry about venturing out too far after enjoying a day exploring this jewel of the British countryside.
Please note, whilst coaches can drop off just outside the hostel, unfortunately we do not offer coach parking on site. However, free coach parking (over 16 passengers) is available at the nearby National Park Visitor Centre.
