Overview
With its own unique style, elevated position and dedicated facilities for groups, this former hunting lodge is an excellent choice for exploring North Yorkshire. Perched on the slopes of Swaledale, with stunning views across and down the valley, fascinating geography all around, and on-site activities for school trips, YHA Grinton Lodge offers the perfect mix of mod cons and period charm.
With plenty of internal breakout space, including a dedicated classroom, smaller study room, games room, dining room and lounge, plus outside, a large contained lawn, gravel courtyard, 5-a-side football pitch and onsite activity course – there’s plenty of room for groups.
For school groups staying at the hostel we can offer our new Multi-Activity package, which includes guided walks across the moors, local history and geography sessions, learning about the impact of lead mining on the area, archery, shelter building, fire lighting and orienteering. You ca also enjoy more adventurous sessions including abseiling, climbing, rafting and other adrenaline fueled challenges delivered by our expert partners at High Adventures.
YHA Grinton Lodge also makes a great destination for groups keen on leading their own activities, be it secondary schools, colleges or universities wanting to lead fieldwork sessions in the fabulous moorland that’s accessible straight from the hostel door, or primary school planning their own bespoke residential. You can also add YHA led activities as a half day or full day bolt onto your self-led stay or go that little further and book in a day of activities with High Adventure.
Situated 10 miles north of Richmond, home to Richmond castle YHA Grinton Lodge is a special retreat for social groups who will love our vantage point overlooking the valley. The hostel is great for those looking for a group stay focused on hiking or biking, with fabulous winding roads and miles of footpaths to explore. The moors above YHA Grinton Lodge make for an exciting walk mixing both the incredible and sometime rare flora and fauna of the area, with wonderful history in the shape of ancient Roman forts and evidence of mining through the ages.
We offer catering options for all our groups as well as a licensed bar stocked with local ales, perfect after a long day spent on the moors or exploring all North Yorkshire has to offer. Finally corporate groups looking for a great get away will find the perfect home in our stunning hostel, where we can provide plenty of space to work, great food and a great location, we can also provide adventurous activities for groups wanting that little extra. There’s even free Wi-Fi for those who can tear themselves away from the view.
