Overview
For outdoor adventures in the heart of the Peak District National Park, look no further than YHA Edale Activity Centre. This large country house, set in its own woodland/moorland grounds on the flanks of Kinder Scout, has a unique combination of wildness and accessibility.
Three separate buildings ensure that exclusivity requirements are met whilst the remainder of the site is very much designed with groups in mind – leader rooms are optimally positioned and there are drying rooms, classrooms, meeting areas and outdoor activity sites in abundance. A games room and free WIFI are available to all and all meals can be provided in our dining room with stunning views over the hills.
Nationally famous walking itineraries, cross country mountain bike routes and road cycling challenges all start and finish at our door and the caves, crags and lakes that we use as our outdoor learning venues are all within easy reach of our fleet of minibuses.
Every aspect of our provision is carefully designed to enhance a group’s learning potential and the overall quality of the experience. Education groups, regardless of age, ability or experience will benefit from the fact that our activity programmes are bespoke and devised in collaboration with group leaders. Whatever fully inclusive package is chosen, whether Action Adventure, Multi Activity or Alex Rider, the specifics of activity, venue, content and style are constantly adjusted to optimise all learning opportunity – our returning groups know that it is this attention to detail that makes every experience at Edale memorable and significant.
On-site activities can include archery, high ropes course, orienteering, tower climb/abseil, team building exercises and hill walks/navigation challenges. Off site, our numerous venues ensure the optimum locations for climbing, abseiling, canoeing, caving, raft- building and weaselling, and include themed gritstone or limestone days that combine several activities in one experience.
Our in-house provision means that every morning, afternoon and evening is filled with fine-tuned activities whatever the agenda. Primary schools appreciate the friendliness and accessibility of first encounters, secondary pupils will realise the full value of their experiences in the course of the session review and sixth form/college groups can be given targeted challenges and outcomes to enhance their confidence and ability to succeed together. We pride ourselves on providing accessible adventures for all – any group can add on any amount of activity input to enhance their stay and our accommodation and most activities are accessible to groups or individuals with significant learning and/or physical disabilities.
For other groups the potential is huge. Walkers can enjoy the comforts of a superbly positioned base and simply walk from the door into open access land and days on either mountain bikes or road bikes straight from our driveway, but with dedicated cycling facilities and a licensed bar to look forward to on return. All the locations and attractions that make the area one of the most visited in the country are close at hand and we are happy to advise our guests in achieving a great day out. Our conference and meeting facilities are a great start to a corporate ‘away day’ (add an intensive day of team building exercises) or a club meet (add a day of skills training) or simply a gathering of friends or family (add a bespoke led walk or other activity experience) who are keen to explore the great outdoors and get away to it all.
