Overview
Situated on the banks of the River Wye and surrounded by 25 acres of gardens, grounds, woodlands and trails, YHA Wye Valley is the perfect destination for groups and schools of all ages. With accommodation split across 2 main buildings it’s great for smaller groups wanting an area for themselves, as well as larger groups planning on taking over the whole building. In addition to this we also have 30 camping pitches and 4 bell tents available for those wanting a night under canvas.
For school groups YHA Wye Valley is able to offer a number of exciting activity packages and bolt on activities, including our Alex Rider Mission Briefing and Alex Rider Classified Mission packages – where participating students each receive a free copy of ‘Stormbreaker’ after undertaking our spy themed residential package. Other package options includes our new Discovery packages which incorporates a number of team building challenges, bushcraft skills, orienteering, archery, and guided walks amongst other activities, or our multi-activity package, which enables groups and schools to add a number of more adventurous activities to those listed above.
For youth groups and schools planning to lead their own trips, YHA Wye Valley enables groups to explore the wider region and has a number of great locations nearby, such as Goodrich Castle, Clearwell Caves and the inspiring Tintern Abbey. Don’t forget that you can also add a half-day or full-day bolt-on session to your self-led stay. We offer group essentials such as free Wi-Fi in communal areas, two spacious lounges, games room and laundry and drying rooms to ensure that all your needs are met during your stay.
YHA Wye Valley offers some unique opportunities for social groups and special interest groups such as climbers, walkers, bikers and water sports enthusiasts. Canoeing straight from our hostel grounds using our own launching platform, climbing at Symond’s Yat and a number of fantastic walking and mountain biking trails are all easily accessible and ready for you to explore.
Relaxing after a busy day exploring all the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley has to offer is easy. We can provide superb group catering including breakfast, packed lunches and evening meals for groups of all types, as well as a licenced bar, in this comfortable base.

How to get here
By car and coach:
If you’re driving, our postcode will take you to the other side of the river to the hostel. Follow these instructions to find us.
From Ross-on-Wye: Follow the A40 towards Monmouth. After Pencraig (50MPH speed limit) take the next turning on your left, signposted Goodrich. After one mile you will enter the village of Goodrich. Pass Jollies stores on your right and then take the next turn on your left. This is signposted to Welsh Bicknor/Courtfield and the Youth Hostel. Continue over the bridge and up a steep hill. Follow the road for 1½ miles keeping to your left all the way. You will cross a cattle grid and enter an open meadow. 250 meters after the cattle grid is a right hand turn in the meadow, the coach may turn here if agreed or carry on. After another 500 meters you will reach a fork in the road. In the middle of the fork is a green sign which tells you the hostel is to the right and there is also a wooden fenced area on your right. This is the drop off point for coaches. Coaches can continue on the left 300 meters to the farm and use the turning circle there. This route is not suitable for double deckers. If you are approaching by foot, bike, car or minibus you may take the fork to the right and continue down the track for 800 metres to the hostel.
From Monmouth: Follow the A40 towards Ross-on-Wye. At Whitchurch take the B4229 signposted Symonds Yat West. Make an immediate right hand turn which takes you back over the A40 on a bridge. After the bridge take the turn on your left signposted Symonds Yat West/Goodrich/Kearne Bridge. Follow the B4229 towards Goodrich and then follow the directions above.
All school groups and coach parties will be met by a member of the team at the top of the drive. We will transport your luggage in our van to the hostel and a member of the team will walk the group down our drive to the hostel. Please call the hostel direct on 01594 860300 should your arrival time differ from that agreed in advance.
