Want to wake up next to the largest lake in England? YHA Windermere makes an ideal choice for school trips and activity groups hoping to make a splash with watersports. Our spacious hostel has a large lounge for groups to study or socialise in, along with a peaceful dining room with epic views. With atmospheric wooded grounds outside and free Wi-Fi inside, there’s always something to do.
YHA Windermere has plenty of comfy areas to relax and a well-stocked bar too. We boast 4 acres of grounds overlooking the lake and countryside, along with modern facilities like web access and TV. And don’t forget breakfast, lunch and dinner – our group catering team can provide them all.
Whether you’re studying the Lake District environment on a field trip or trying activities like abseiling, we’re a top choice for school trips. The lake itself is ripe for wild swimming, or head to the watersports centre for kayaking, canoeing or windsurfing. If you’re a walking group, don’t miss the lovely Troutbeck Valley (and its accompanying village) and the visitor centre at Brockhole.

How to get here
By car and coach:
If you are driving from the north, we recommend leaving the M6 at junction 36, 37 or 38 and follow signs for Troutbeck Bridge. After the filling station, take the first turning on the right, the hostel is well signed here and is one mile up Bridge Lane.
If you are traveling by bus, there is a shuttle bus running between Keswick and Grasmere, which bypasses the closure. You can then change to the regular 555 service.
