Overview
This inspiring location situated between the classic destinations of Bakewell and Buxton is a former mill owner’s home and sits within 60 acres of mature woodland, great for activities and exploring. It’s fitting that just outside our grounds is Bellamy’s Bank, the spot that first introduced David Bellamy to the world of nature, and no visit to Ravenstor is complete without a moment of peace and tranquillity on the Bank.
The hostel itself has 70 beds and a mix of dorm rooms and smaller rooms, ideal for teachers and group leaders. The hostel also includes a games room, lounge, dedicated classroom, drying room and free Wi-Fi.
At YHA Ravenstor we offer a range of educational and adventurous packages, including our Discovery, Multi-Activity, and our exclusive Alex Rider packages. A spy-themed residential where each student will receive a free copy of ‘Stormbreaker’ courtesy of Walker Books Ltd. YHA Ravenstor offers a number of activities on site, and the grounds are perfect for activities such as Archery, Orienteering, Shelter Building, Fire lighting and a number of team challenge activities, or for the more adventurous who are looking to book our Multi-Activity and Alex Rider Classified Mission packages there is great Climbing and Caving locally, not to mention an incredible abseil of a nearby viaduct, part of the Monsal Trail.
The hostel also makes a great base for self-led groups exploring the rich variety of local attractions from show caves to stately homes, don’t forget you can always add on a YHA led or Adventurous bolt-on activity to your self-led stay. We can also offer more curriculum and geography related activities through our partnership with The Peak District National Park.
For non-education/social or special interest groups YHA Ravenstor offers the opportunity to explore deep into the Peak District, great walking, climbing and mountain biking are all available from the door, and the Monsal trail provides an easy walk or cycle straight into Bakewell. You can also end the day with a meal and a drink from our fully licensed bar.
