Overview
Set on the edge of 3000 acres of mixed woodland YHA Holmbury St Mary Surrey Hills is a rural slice of adventure, yet only a stone’s throw from central London. In fact from some of the amazing viewpoints that surround the hostel, including Leith Hill, you can easily see Canary Wharf and other famous London landmarks.
The hostel is the perfect size for school groups wanting sole occupancy. The building provides two floors of accommodation with teacher rooms at the end of each corridor for easy segregation, coded entry for extra security, and a comfy dining room/lounge area. Outside the hostel our fenced off section of lawn comes complete with a story-telling circle that is separated from the Hurtwood Estate by stunning woodland.
An interactive guided walk to Holmbury Hill is a must for all groups staying at the hostel, the surprising view at the end of the walk never fails to enthrall groups of all ages. Alternatively shelter building in the woods and fire lighting back at the hostel provides the opportunity for young people to engage with this working woodland.
For older school groups, or primary schools looking to lead their own self-led adventures, the hostel makes a great base. The location offers a great many opportunities to really get to explore a different setting and complete a range of study areas including Biology fieldwork and film making.
If you have your own transport and fancy exploring further afield, central London, Chessington World of Adventures, and Hampton Court Palace can be easily reached, allowing you to mix your rural stay with a little urban magic.
Social groups and non-education groups will also find the perfect getaway at YHA Holmbury St Mary Surrey Hills. The Hurtwood Estate has a myriad of paths and routes that crisscross the ancient woodland and they are open to a range of activities including horse riding and some superb mountain bike trails. In addition to great walking, biking, riding and wildlife spotting straight from the door, the hostel is ideally located for exploring the heart of Surrey and its numerous local attractions, villages, and walks. This includes thrilling hikes up Box Hill or seeing the view from the top of Leith Tower. After a busy day exploring you can be assured of a warm welcome back at the hostel, where you can enjoy our delicious group catering, fully licensed bar and patio garden.
