Overview
From the cultural goldmine of Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage to stunning walking routes right from the doorstep, YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe is perfect for exploring Lake District attractions. This beautiful Victorian mansion has views of the nearby fells so it’s an inspiring choice for geography students or activity groups. Relax in our garden or use our well-equipped meeting room for studying or a conference.
YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe offers all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay with your group including free Wi-Fi to stay connected. There’s a widescreen TV, two lounges for socialising, a play area and a licensed bar for relaxing in the evenings. We can also do group catering for all meals of the day.
The pretty village of Grasmere is home to a world-famous gingerbread shop (a must-visit for groups) and the grave of William Wordsworth himself. Adrenaline-junkies will find exciting mountain biking nearby, and the hostel has excellent facilities for looking after your cycling gear. You could go wild swimming in Grasmere Lake or Rydal Water – or just study it as part of a biology field trip.

How to get here
By car and coach:
If you are driving from the north, we recommend leaving the M6 at junction 36, 37 or 38. From the Grasmere bus stops, take Easedale Road. Continue for 200m to the hostel driveway on the right. Luggage can be dropped off at the main entrance, but cars must park at the beginning of the driveway. Additional parking is available in the village.
By bus:
If you are traveling by bus, there is a shuttle bus running between Keswick and Grasmere. You can then change to the regular 555 or 599 service which run through the village.
