Overview
YHA Borrowdale is an 86 bed hostel including a selection of dorm beds and private rooms, as well as a number of camping pods and camping pitches. This hostel is a true Lakeland classic, ski valley vibe, cosy log fire, breathtaking beauty and friendly and enthusiastic staff. The hostel has free Wi-Fi, a room available for meetings/studying and all the onsite facilities you would expect from YHA.
The hostel makes a great base for school groups offering the opportunity to add on adventurous activities delivered through our activity partners Carnegie Great Outdoors. In addition to this the hostel is superbly located for carrying out self-led Geography/Geology and Ecology related fieldwork for GCSE and A-level requirements. The hostel has good access to woodland, the river Derwent for river studies and freshwater ecology, whilst the nearby town of Keswick is perfect for studying the impacts of tourism and other related issues. Finally, the Borrowdale Volcanic group will always be a great fieldwork study for budding Geologist.
For social groups and walking and climbing groups the hostel is superbly located to access some of the most iconic climbing and walking routes in the Lake District including Scarfell Pike, Great Gable, Catbells and Castle Crag to name a few.
Additional activities and attractions nearby include Honister Slate mine, Keswick pencil museum, boat cruises on Derwentwater of for something a little different – a spot of dragon boating.
All in all, YHA Borrowdale is a superb setting for all group getaways, with great access to the surrounding landscapes and towns, and for those who like to settle down with a drink after a full day of adventure. YHA Borrowdale also boasts the best pub in the Village.

How to get here
By car and by coach:
From Keswick follow the B5289 to Borrowdale. Look for YHA signs at the crossroads, 0.5 miles after Rosthwaite.
By bus:
The nearest bus stop is a 300m walk away at Stonethwaite Road End. The 78 and 77 run past this stop at frequent intervals during the summer.
